Techno fans heading to 5 Days Off this year are in safe hands once again because Electric Deluxe are back on the bill with a patented all star cast in tow. Taking over day two of the much-loved Amsterdam music festival, be prepared for some first class entertainment from talents cherry picked from across Europe.
Berghain resident Marcel Fengler has been turning his skills to all sorts since the release of Fokus back in July, his long-awaited debut album. Known for his slightly skewed but never disappointing selection, Fengler is always a delight behind the decks. He’ll be joined by Truss, AKA MPIA3—or Donor / Truss when in tandem with his transatlantic partner, Greg Schappert. Real name Tom Russell, this hardworking, harder-hitting DJ and producer from London has been rising to the fore with releases on R&S, Perc Trax and Our Circular Sound, with ever fervour intent.
Next: Abdulla Rashim—the person—might be a slight enigma, but his music on Prologue and Semantica (outside his own Abdulla Rashim Records) speaks for itself. The young Swede has already amassed a legion of fans. And his live shows are not to be missed. Will & Ink are another formidable live act. Having debuted on record with their eponymous Delsin sublabel—and one killer EP—the Amsterdam-based duo have been impressing with their keen sound design and custom-made set ups.
Jean Pierre Enfant, resident DJ at TrouwAmsterdam and founder of the infamous Les Enfants Terribles parties, almost concludes the bill. But it wouldn’t be an EDP party without a member from the extended family. And so it’s with great privilege we welcome Chris Liebing to the line up, one of EDLX’s founding collaborators and long time associates.
As ever, host, chief and ELDX mastermind Speedy J will take a turn behind the decks, this time together with Collabs partner and long-time label affiliate Chris Liebing. Their set will be supported by specially commissioned visuals created by artist Florence To. Synched to different frequencies in Speedy J’s set, Florence To’s audio-visual installation promises to be a deep immersive and spatial-altering experience. You’ve been warned..
Line-up: a secret that will be a secret until … the party ends

Body Echoes – 4DSound with Lucy (Stroboscopic Artefacts)
Dates & Time:
11th January 2014
4DSOUND Studio, Amsterdam (Netherlands)
Lucy + Amanda Morelli
17,50 EUR presale + fees
‘Body Echoes‘ is the first in a series of Artist-in-Residency performances on the 4DSOUND system by Lucy.
Using a system modular arrangement of 48 omnidirectional speakers, this concept will allow the performer to move sound across the room in infinite directions and transform the space itself into an engrossing environment. Lucy will explore the integration of breathing and sound with the help of cultural anthropologist and yoga teacher Amanda Morelli.
While Morelli performs deep-breathing techniques, Lucy will process live inputs taken from microphones embedded on Morelli’s body, utilizing the spatial dynamics of 4DSOUND’s capabilities. During Body Echoes, the listener only experiences organic sounds and vibrations sourced directly from her body, amplified and transformed, so the inner experience of Pranayama (the regulation of the breath through certain techniques and exercises) is now fully shared with the audience. In a multilayered feedback process, the sound of Morelli’s breathing is enriched by Lucy’s signal processing, which Morelli uses as an aural conducter to respond to the sounds Lucy creates. A precious tool to deepen the Pranayama practice itself.
That means translating the inner and individual experience of an incredibly powerful meditation technique into a language the audience can fully experience: Sound. This is why the participants are free to explore and walk through 4DSOUND’s speaker columns during Body Echoes. The Pranayama practicioner (Morelli) will therefore be able to share with the audience the benefits of what is being transformed from ‘breath therapy’ into fully immersive ‘sound therapy’. So moving from the inner space of the performing subject to the surrounding 4DSOUND landscape, and back to the subject, breath and sound will merge in a multidimensional, collective experience.
A discussion with Lucy and Amanda Morelli will take place after the performance.
Lucy is the nom de techno of Italian-born and Berlin-based Luca Mortellaro, one of the genre’s most exciting and ambitious DJ/producers. Since 2009, Mortellaro has focused his work through his own Stroboscopic Artefacts ts record label, building an imprint and personal discography that has established itself as one of electronic music’s finest.
