Nitzer Ebb

Introduction:
Today is the 24th February… short: 24/2 … For some electro heads it is the EBM day (242 from “Front 242”). So we want to celebrate this day with one of the most influencing EBM bands which also had a strong effect on us. Nitzer Ebb.

Nitzer Ebb was initially formed in Chelmsford, Essex by school friends Douglas McCarthy [lead vocals, guitar], Vaughn ‘Bon’ Harris [vocals, percussion, guitar] and David Gooday [percussion] in the mid 1980’s. The trio caught the attention of PWL producer Phil Harding, who then produced their 1985 debut single “Isn’t It Funny How Your Body Works?” and helped them set up their own label, Power Of Voice Communications.

After three single on their own imprint they signed with the legendary Mute label, run by Daniel Miller. The debut album “That Total Age” followed some hit single “Murderous” & “Let Your Body Learn”. 4 other great albums were released on Mute until 1994 – “Belief”, “Showtime”, “Ebbhead” & “Big Hit”.

Then the band broke up for more than 10 years. In 2009 they reunited for the release of “Industrial Complex” album on Major Records.

Enjoy some of their finest songs & videos from their Mute era ….

Press Info (English):
Goldfrapp will release their seventh studio album ‘Silver Eye’ on March 31st through Mute.

The band, consisting of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, also reveal their new single ‘Anymore’. Featuring strident strands of underground electronica, sensual melody and metal machine pop at its core, the new track is an assertive return from the uncompromising duo.

Goldfrapp follow up 2013’s album ‘Tales of Us’ with the deep, dark and electronic musical palette of ‘Silver Eye’, their brand new studio album, made with an eclectic collection of new collaborators. Alison and Will spent 10 days in Dallas with John Congleton, Grammy-winning producer of St. Vincent, John Grant and Wild Beasts. In London they teamed up with electronic composer Bobby Krlic, aka The Haxan Cloak. Brian Eno collaborator Leo Abrahams added abstract guitar textures. The album was mixed by David Wrench (The xx, fka Twigs, Caribou).

On the making the album, Alison Goldfrapp said: “We’ve never liked repeating ourselves. Often we react to things we’ve just done. We like the spontaneity of not knowing. It’s only through the process that we start to figure out what it is. The fans who have stuck with us are the ones who embrace that idea and are excited by the thought that they don’t know quite what to expect next.”

Will Gregory added: “I think writing an album is like being lost in a wood. You’re trying to figure out an interesting path. You don’t know whether it’s going to be a dead end or somewhere interesting and you never know when to stop because around the corner some beautiful vista might open up.”

Alison headed to Fuerteventura, a volcanic island in the Canary Islands, to produce the remarkable visuals for the record, all of which were devised and shot by her. The black sands, stark cliffs, rolling dunes and blazing blue skies, captured in her own photographs, are a total complement to the elemental drama of the music on the album. Working with stunning twins who she spotted on the street in London, Alison created and shot a set of visuals that are as arresting as they are idiosyncratic. In demand more and more as a photographer, Alison has been commissioned for other projects in the past including shooting Laura Mvula live at Somerset House.

Goldfrapp will be performing a very special show at London’s Roundhouse on March 27th where they will showcase new music from ‘Silver Eye’. Tickets go on sale this Friday with a special fan pre-sale from Wednesday March 25th. Fans should sign up to the mailing list at http://www.goldfrapp.com to get early access to the tickets.

Silver Eye is released March 31st and is available to pre-order now.

Zum Entstehungsprozess des Albums befragt, sagt Alison: “We’ve never liked repeating ourselves. Often we react to things we’ve just done. We like the spontaneity of not knowing. It’s only through the process that we start to figure out what it is. The fans who have stuck with us are the ones who embrace that idea and are excited by the thought that they don’t know quite what to expect next.”

Will Gregory ergänzt: “I think writing an album is like being lost in a wood. You’re trying to figure out an interesting path. You don’t know whether it’s going to be a dead end or somewhere interesting and you never know when to stop because around the corner some beautiful vista might open up.”

Press Info:
ADULT. (Detroit’s Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller) have announced details of a new collaborative album, Detroit House Guests – their first for Mute – out on double vinyl and CD on 17 March 2017.

Listen to They’re Just Words, the first track to be taken from the album, featuring Nitzer Ebb’s Douglas J McCarthy below.

Detroit House Guests is a collaborative project, conceived by ADULT. in the early 2000s. The concept became a reality in 2014 after receiving a John S. and James L.Knight Foundation grant.

Based on the visual artist residency model, each musician came to ADULT.’s studio for a three week period with the parameter that they all live, work and collaborate together. The result – a total anthropological sound experiment and a full length album.

The album features collaborations with a whole host of musicians and artists – Douglas J McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb, Michael Gira from Swans, Shannon Funchess from Light Asylum, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe aka Lichens, Austrian thereminist Dorit Chrysler and multidisciplinary artist Lun*na Menoh.

ADULT. are the Detroit duo Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller. They played their first live show together in Germany in 1997 under the name Artificial Material. In early ’98 they released their first 12″ under the moniker Plasma Co. Later that year, they released their first 12″ under the name ADULT. Currently, they have released six albums and 19 EPs or singles on Ghostly International, Thrill Jockey and Clone Records, as well as on their own label Ersatz Audio, (which currently has over 40 releases since it was founded in ’95). They have remixed over 20 acts as well, including Tuxedomoon, John Foxx, Death in Vegas and Pet Shop Boys (for Moog Music).

Kuperus and Miller also make sculpture, paintings, films, photographs, performances, videos and installations. They strive to intersect the lines between art and audio and have exhibited their work at institutions such as the Austrian Cultural Forum (NY), Mattress Factory (Pittsburgh), Detroit Institute of Arts (Detroit), MOMAS (Saitama, Japan), and Centre d’art contemporain de Meymac (FR). They have shown their film The Three Grace(s) triptych at spaces such as Anthology Film Archives (NY), Distrital Film Festival (Mexico City), and Grey Area for Art and Technology (SF).
