Press Info:
Aleks Schatten’s debut EP ‘Scars To Reveal’ to be released on August 21

Berlin-based artist, Aleks Schatten, releases his first four track EP ‘Scars To Reveal’ on August 21. A collection of otherworldly and dystopian Techno tracks building upon Post Industrial, IDM and Avant-garde Punk. Featuring a track with iconic Berlin-based Post-Industrial band Bestial Mouths on their newly founded ‘Compulsive Movement’ label.

Heavily relying on elaborate sound design and subtle details, the opening duo ‘Strangled With A Golden Braid’ and ‘I Lost My Heart Midway To Your Place’ evoke a gloomy and captivating atmosphere with a sense of intimacy and urgency. Whereas ‘Love, Misguided’ is tailored for dancefloors, openly praising Birmingham’s contribution to Techno and at the same time a fond farewell to Aleks Schatten’s EBM roots. The EP closes with ‘In Mourning To Exist’, an anthemic yet slow-moving number featuring Bestial Mouths’ singer Lynette Cerezo, in her lead role as a tribal preacher and enchantress, embedded in a psychedelic Industrial environment, channelling Coil and Psychic TV’s late 80s/early 90s Techno experiments.

A series of DJ sets is planned for late 2017, following the release of a 2nd EP. Mastered by Neptune Mastering

Info:
Cryosleep is the debut album from Null + Void, the alias of prolific New York producer Kurt Uenala. It’s an album of contrasts and tension, where darkness is pierced by blinding light, and where moody new wave bleeds into stark electronics. In one moment, joyful memories give way to isolation and regret, and in the next, Cryosleep explores the catharsis of crowded dancefloors. Throughout the record, Uenala matches his dynamic production with incredible vocalists—from Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan and the inimitable Shannon Funchess, to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Big Pink. Null + Void’s take on dark pop meshes with his love for Detroit electro, poignant synth melodies, and cold atmospheres.

With the cinematic opener “Falling Down” and brooding instrumentals like “Come To Me”, Cryosleep can feel like the soundtrack to a lost space epic. No doubt, the album evokes Blade Runner, dystopian landscapes, and the splendor of far-off galaxies. As Uenala puts it, Cryosleep is inspired by “classic sci-fi stuff,” images of futuristic machines sustaining humans frozen in a dreamstate. The melancholy “Foreverness” explores what they might be thinking: “A collection of fragments, memories of a life lived—preserved, but incomplete and jumbled.” Meanwhile, “Into The Void” paints a peaceful, otherworldly picture, “like soaring towards a white light.” Lead single “Asphalt Kiss” sounds like a frenzied chase scene through rain-slick streets, while the upbeat “Paragon” zips like a bullet train over lush, alien scenery.

But for all of its widescreen beauty and world-building, Null + Void’s debut album also thrives on emotional songwriting and stylish versatility. Uenala dips his beloved old-school genres in chrome, giving them a contemporary, high-gloss sheen. Dave Gahan’s singular voice brings a classic edge to “Where I Wait,” a stunning song about hope and uncertainty. “I wrote it with Dave in mind,” Uenala says of his frequent collaborator. “He wrote the melody and lyrics soon after he was sick, which I think influenced the reflective tone.” The song, which also features Sharin Foo of The Raveonettes, shines among Cryosleep ‘s unforgettable pop excursions, alongside the quietly catchy “Take It Easy” and the harrowing “Hands Bound”. Uenala envisioned the “larger than life” voice of Shannon Funchess amidst frantic beats and gothic bells, and she brings undeniable power to “Hands Bound”. In awe of her presence, the producer says, “Shannon sings her lyrics about dominance and control with scary conviction.”

The title Cryosleep perfectly accentuates what Null + Void expresses throughout his first record. “It’s about the desire to keep loved ones alive beyond their lifespan,” he explains, alluding to the personal life experiences that color this music. “And if you tapped into that frozen person and scanned their last thoughts, their final farewell, this is what might come out.”

To experience Cryosleep is to enter the many worlds of the subconscious, vibrant realms of hidden shadows, lost memories, and the mesmerizing unknown.

Press Info:
Mark Reeder returns with a new album ‘Mauerstadt’ after the success of his impressive 80s documentary film ‘B-Movie (Lust & Sound in West-Berlin 79-89)’. Mauerstadt is a collection of collaborations he’s created with both new and established artists, Queen of Hearts, Maja Pierro, The KVB, Ekkoes, MFU, The Inspiral Carpets and New Order.

Mauerstadt begins with In Sight, Reeder’s songwriting collaboration with The KVB, an English duo living in Berlin. The KVB have been enjoying well-deserved international success, and recently Reeder remixed their song ‘White Walls’ off their acclaimed album: Of Desire. In sight, is a dark and threatening synthpop track with a haunting message.

Ekkoes used to be called Echoes. Reeder debuted this synth-pop band on his highly acclaimed Five Point One album. Ekkoes recently attracted a lot of heartfelt attention as support act for The Human League on their European Tour. Mauerstadt features two new electrifying Ekkoes songs, both mixed in Reeder’s familiar style.

Queen of Hearts, is a project fronted by vocalist Elisabeth Morphew, she has previously worked with Reeder, who originally wrote these two songs for her first highly sort-after debut album Cocoon, these Mauerstadt versions are special reworkings of Suicide and an extended mix of United.

Heartbreaker Maja Pierro is the Swedish wife of Italian synthmaster Raiders of the Lost ARP. The two songs featured on Mauerstadt reveal her emotional vocal style that almost anyone can sing along to. If you don’t love it tonight, you will love it tomorrow.

Reeder’s hometown of Manchester is also fully represented on this album by three bands, beginning with the duo MFU (also known as Modern Family Unit). Their mutual friend and former Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam, brought them together for this extraordinarily saucy remix of Mmm Mmm Mmm Ahhh. Reeder added his mysterious touch and a belting groove to it.

The next Manchester band are legends of the rave era and are represented with their track You’re so good to me, this is probably the final song of The Inspiral Carpets with their drummer Craig Gill, who recently passed away. This is a punchy remix with plenty of attitude.

Finally, the most anticipated of all the tracks on this album are the two versions Reeder made of Academic and The Game by New Order.

Reeder’s close relationship to this band goes back over 40 years, Reeder remixed Singularity for which New Order used footage from Reeder’s acclaimed documentary film B-Movie (Lust & Sound in West-Berlin 79-89) for their video and live shows. Mauerstadt (the Album’s title track) is also featured in this film and it’s presented here, in its extended version.

New Order’s Academic, which was remixed especially for this album, becomes a pulsating synth-slammer, while the closing track, The Game, becomes a down tempo, melancholic and emotional ballad, with tons of sweeping strings, all held together by Reeder’s dark and throbbing bass guitar. This version was also the inspiration for their two unique Sydney Opera House concerts with the SOH chamber orchestra, at which Reeder performed as opening DJ.

The album title Mauerstadt means walled city and it is a reflection on the walled-in city of West-Berlin, and how that political situation confined an entire city and divided a Nation, but at the same time, it also liberated many of those who lived within its walls. The fact people were walled-in became the main creative force behind the Berlin of the 80s.

Under the current climate, the album reflects the times in which we live, as it has become even more apparent that nations and people are building walls again, maybe not actual physical walls, but mental barriers too, dividing people, gender, nations and religions.

This album is a mixture of styles depicting Reeder’s ability to move over different territories while remaining within a similar framework. This album draws your attention towards openmindedness and the need to break down the walls inside your head.

Press Info:
Post Scriptum is the latest artist to join the Sonic Groove Records roster.

Previously releasing on Function’s legendary Infrastructure imprint, Post Scriptum changes gears stylistically in a very big way with his latest release entitled Until You Drop. Leaving his previous looped based purist Techno behind, Post Scriptum takes his sound exploration into the much darker cavernous world of Industrial Techno.

Dark As You Like starts off this musical odyssey with a fierce mid tempo, broken beat groove. The rhythm emits the real feel sensation of live played drums with its hard smashing snares and deep booming bass kicks which surely will have you play the air drums! Layered on top of this beast of a rhythm track, Post Scriptum provides the perfect lyricism with a smooth spoken narrative. Very forward thinking sound design curves its way in and out of the dark negative space the rhythm and vocals provide. Without imitation or sounding even remotely retro this evokes the feel of early Nine Inch Nails and Ministry.

Drop Zone is a highly intense workout with it’s pulsing staccato bassline and crackling filtered out lead line which builds into a growling beast of a riff that will completely consume the listener. You Won’t Find Me (Short Mix/Long Mix) takes things further into the post contemporary realm of present day Industrialized Techno with complex, bass heavy drum rhythms, slicing and dicing their way through a darkened acidic atmosphere of time, space and sound.

The joining of Post Scriptum and Sonic Groove Records is the perfect match with this beautifully crafted Techno-Industrial hybrid EP, a banger for the dance floor but also a delicious delicacy for your home turntable or music player. Post Scriptum Until You Drop will be released on July 24, 2017.
